Twitter Verified, What's the Scenario?

We all come across the blue bubble containing a tick following the names of a few on Twitter. It is means that the account is verified. Verified means, Twitter knows who the person is behind a particular account. The thing is not everyone on Twitter is verified. So, why is it that only a few are and rest aren't.

First of all, it doesn't depend whether a user has 10M followers or just 100 followers. Follower count is not a criteria of getting an account verified. There are cases where a user has some million of followers still their account isn't verified. Twitter has it's own procedure through which it decides whether an account is to be verified or not.

Whose account is verified?

A celebrity in general. Maybe an actor, a singer, a politician, an entertainer, a writer, a journalist. Also, profiles handled by a group (company) has a verified status.

Are general public included?

At present, it's not available for everyone.

The thing to be taken care of is that, Twitter doesn't ask your passwords or any confidential data to verify your profile (as mentioned on the @verified handle).

Things to be taken care of to get your profile verified:

If you think you are eligible to have a verified account and still not having it, here maybe a reason. If a user keeps changing his/her username time to time, they are most likely not to get a verified account. It's difficult for Twitter to maintain an account verified if the username keeps on changing. They verify a username not a user.

There's a point that, if you have got a verified account and then you changed your username, you are likely to lose the verified status. So, keep it in mind that if you want to get your account verified, keep a stable identity so that it becomes easy for twitter to verify your account.
